Alarming facts about on-the-job back injuries...and how to prevent them
Back injuries are the most common and costly source of injury to American workers. In 2001 (most recent data available), 372,683 reported back injuries occurred, accounting for 27% of all lost time causes. (US Bureau of Labor Statistics)
Twenty-two percent of these back injuries involved more than 31 days of lost work. Since the Bureau of Labor Statistics only reports “31 or more” lost days of work, the actual number of lost days is substantially higher.
The average cost of lost-time back injury is now $24,000.00 and in cases involving surgery, $180,000.00 (US Center of Health Promotion and Preventative Medicine).
Besides putting up with the pain that often lingers from a back injury, persons with a previous back injury are 90% more likely to have a recurrence.
Automating with palletizers, depalletizers and vertical box and bag elevators is an obvious solution to reduce the risk of back injury to your workers. However, palletizing systems are generally quite costly and they also require significant space. Both of these potential issues have forced many businesses to seek alternative methods for palletizing their bags, boxes and other stackable items.
To counteract these issues, Fruittek and our partners have worked hard to build relationships with industry leading manufacturers that mass produce highly industrial palletizers that are compact, reliable and above all, affordable. We have been installing our durable, space efficient and cost-effective palletizing systems in the U.S. for over five years now and have a growing list of very satisfied customers. Our customers rarely request support and many have been so satisfied with the performance and over-all value of our palletizing solutions that they continually serve as positive references to our technology. In fact, we would be glad to put you in touch with them.
